Diamond Version 5 - Update Page

Once you have obtained one or multiple Diamond licences, you should visit this page from time to time, especially if you have deactivated the "Check for available updates" option. (Cf. command "Options" in the "Tools" menu, "Desktop" page of "Options" dialog.) If any bugfixes or (minor) improvements are available, you can download the concerning files from here.

The latest available version of Diamond is 5.1.0, released on October 24, 2024. If you are still using an older version (which can be checked with the "About Diamond" command from the "Help" menu), we strongly recommend to update to the latest version.

In general, you can use the above mentioned "online update" function in Diamond to update to the latest available version without needing to uninstall and re-install from a setup package. (See the command "Online Update" in the "Help" menu of Diamond and press the F1 key for more details.)

Please note that the automatic check for available updates at program start may fail or you may be prompted for administrator rights when you run the command "Help -> Online Update". In this case you should re-run Diamond not by double-clicking on the desktop icon but using "Run as administrator" from the context menu of the Diamond icon.

If you have not activated the above mentioned "automatic online update" or are not willing or able to run the update via the "Online Update" command from the "Help" menu, you can download the setup package from our Download page.

Version 5.1.0

Version 5.1.0 was released on October 24, 2024 and contains several new or enhanced functions:

• Command Edit/Reduce Selection added as counterpart of Edit/Expand Selection.
• Sub-menu Extended Selection added to Edit menu containing the following new functions:
  • Selection or deselection of fragments (a moiety of atoms connected with bonds).
  • Selection or deselection of symmetry-related atoms and other objects.
  • Selection of all atoms at x,y,z or all atoms at positions with symmetry operation and/or translations.
  • Object Selection dialog to select or deselect all objects (e.g. labels) of a kind or associated with other objects, e.g. all labels belonging to the marked atoms.
• Selection of fragments or molecules from the marked atom sites in the atomic parameter table.
• Commands added to Build/Destroy sub-menu to selectively destroy the unselected atoms and bonds or unselected molecules.
• The commands Copy Style and Paste Style in the Edit menu are now able to transfer designs (styles) of multiple objects of different kinds in one step, e.g. selected atoms, bonds, and polyhedra to other atoms, bonds, and polyhedra, rsp. Styles can also be transferred between different types of objects, e.g. atom colors to labels.
• Commands added in the Display/Design Scheme sub-menu to:
  • Create a design scheme specifically for a fragment, e.g. an organic linker in a metal-organic framework or other building units, from the selected atoms, bonds (or contacts, H-bonds), and polyhedra.
  • Apply a design scheme specifically to selected building units.
• Command File/Save As/Save Graphics As enhanced to create OBJ or STL files with higher resolution (more vertices).

Version 5.0.2

Version 5.0.2 was released on February 6, 2024 and contains a bug fix for the "online update" function.

Note: An update to this version is not available via the "Online update" command in Diamond (cf. "Help" menu) but must be installed through the setup package from our Download page.

 Before you start the installation after successful download, make a backup copy of your license file "yourlicense.lic", which is located in the Diamond program directory, by default: "C:\Program Files\Diamond 5" or "C:\Program Files (x86)\Diamond 5". Then install Diamond (which replaces your license file with the general demonstration license file). After successful installation re-copy your backuped license file into the Diamond program directory.

Check if the update has been successful by running the command "About Diamond" from the "Help" menu.

Enhancements in version 5.0.1

Version 5.0.1 was released on January 30, 2024 and contains a new tool and a few bug fixes:

• A command Tools/Register Diamond Document Type was added, which
  - removes Registry entries of earlier Diamond versions 3 and 4 and
  - registers the Diamond document file type (files with the extension ".diamdoc") for the current version 5 in the Windows Registry.
  This command is very useful, if you encounter trouble opening a Diamond document file from the Windows Explorer or from the Windows desktop with this current version of Diamond.
  Note: Using this command requires running Diamond with administrator rights.
• Online help was not available for commands in dropdown menu of the Picture Tab Bar.

Version 5.0.0

This first version in a series of minor updates for Diamond version 5.x was released on October 25, 2023.
