Crystal Impact outlook to 2021

December 17, 2020

Certainly quite a lot has happened in the closing year 2020, and most of it has very little to do with crystallography or materials science. Nevertheless, we would like to thank all of our customers again for their ongoing interest in our software! Here is a brief outlook what you can expect from Crystal Impact in the next year 2021:

Diamond 5 will be released, providing a new exploration view for a more intuitive research from atomic environments up to molecule clusters. In this context, we will also switch over to the update permission time model that we are already using with our Match! software. The update to Diamond 5 will be free-of-charge for all customers who own a license for Diamond 4.

The next Match! version 3.11.3 will become available within short. It will provide some improvements of profile fitting and peak searching, and also come along with a new edition of the COD reference database.
Afterwards, we will start working on Match! version 3.12 that will provide pattern decomposition, i.e. the calculation of I(hkl) values from given profile, peak and unit cell parameter data.
Finally, we are currently planning to create an introductory tutorial video for Rietveld refinement, as a supplement to our video Rietveld refinement using Match!.

Endeavour will also benefit from the availability of the pattern decomposition method in Match!, in the sense that this will allow you to solve crystal structures from single crystal like data I(hkl). In this context, we are currently thinking about an even closer connection between Endeavour and Match!.

We currently expect the next release 2021/22 of Pearson's Crystal Data to become available in autum 2021, providing thousands of new entries as usual.

Reminder: Permanent personal licenses only available until December 31!

As we have already announced in August, permanent personal licenses for Diamond, Endeavour and Match! will no longer be available as new licenses after December 31, 2020.

Starting 2021, individuals are still welcome to purchase a permanent license for their own private use; they can benefit from our corresponding 50% discount then, just like academic and other non-profit organizations.

Match! customers who already own a permanent personal license will of course still be able to purchase extensions for their update permission time in the future.

Diamond customers who own a permanent personal license for version 4 will get the update to Diamond 5 free-of-charge.

We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
