Contents of this Readme File ------------------------------- 1. Preliminary Remarks 2. Installing Endeavour Kernel 3. License Installation 4. Documentation 5. Support 6. Contacting Crystal Impact 1. Preliminary Remarks ---------------------- This document describes the installation of the Endeavour kernel software for macOS. It can be used to run Endeavour calculations on macOS machines without the Windows user interface, controlled by a so-called "script file". The Endeavour kernel for macOS is a so-called "Universal Binary" that runs natively on Macs with Intel or ARM processors. 2. Installing Endeavour Kernel ------------------------------ Before you install and run the Endeavour kernel for macOS, you should check the following system requirements: - Mac (Intel or ARM processor) with macOS 10.12 "Sierra" (or higher) - 2 GB of RAM - Hard disk with minimum 50 MB of free disk space In order to install the Endeavour kernel for macOS for Apple Silicon, please download the latest installer package from https://www.crystalimpact.de/download/endeavour/enkernel/macOS_arm64/Enkernel.pkg Once the download has finished, please run the installer “Enkernel.pkg by double-clicking on the file in the Finder. Please follow the instructions on the screen in order to install the Endeavour Kernel and supporting files. The files will be installed in the directory $HOME/Endeavour/Enkernel In addition to the actual kernel program file (called "Enkernel"), this directory will also contain the documentation (files "tutorial.pdf" as well as this file "Readme.txt"). 3. License installation ----------------------- After you have installed the main software from the download package, the Endeavour kernel program will run in demonstration mode, which basically means that the software is restricted to the elements present in the tutorial's compounds (currently H, Li, B, C, N, O, Na, P, S, Cl, Ni, Cu, Mo, Ru, In, Ba, La, Au, Pb) and to carbon containing molecules with composition C14, C15NO2S, and C15H23NO2S. In order to transform the software into the fully licensed, unrestricted version, you still need to install your license file. In order to do so, simply copy your Endeavour license file (called "yourlicense.lic") into the directory where you have installed/unpacked the program "Enkernel". Normally, you should have obtained this license file as a compressed archive called "license_Endeavour.zip" attached to your Endeavour delivery e-mail. Finally, please verify that your Endeavour kernel directory contains following files: - Enkernel (the actual Endeavour kernel program) - yourlicense.lic (your license file) - tutorial.pdf (the Endeavour tutorial handbook) - Readme.txt (this file) You are now ready to run your Endeavour kernel calculations. 4. Documentation ---------------- There is a special chapter called "Endeavour Kernel Scripts" in the "Appendix" of the Endeavour Tutorial Handbook (which has been installed as file "tutorial.pdf"). Follow the steps described there to create the script and other input files required for running Endeavour kernel calculations. 5. Support ----------------- In case of trouble with the Endeavour kernel, please do not hesitate to contact Crystal Impact by sending an e-mail to putz@crystalimpact.de 6. Contacting Crystal Impact ---------------------------- To contact a Crystal Impact representative, either * send an e-mail to sales@crystalimpact.com * fax to +49-228-9813644 * call +49-228-9813643 * or write to: Crystal Impact GbR, Kreuzherrenstr. 102, D-53227 Bonn, Germany.
